Today, all the kids have either had attitudes, been rough with each other or been grumpy. Needless to say, I’m exhausted, bitchy and frustrated after having to go downstairs an hour after bedtime because Kaeidyn hit Kenzie extremely hard. In part because she was mad that she had to drink water, and the other part because Kenzie was playing with the blanket.

They went to Alfie’s last night, and then Kaeidyn got picked up for school this morning. Then after school, Kaeidyn and the kids stayed at Alfie’s until around dinner time. Kaeidyn has had an attitude in general lately, though spend a night at Alfie’s and it goes into overdrive and she becomes whiny and bossy on top of all that attitude. I thought after all the quiet, I’d be prepared for them to come back. But all day, everytime I’m around them, I just feel incredibly stressed out.

The attitudes and the roughness and the way they talk to each other is becoming so exhausting to deal with. It doesn’t help that there is three different parental units that are helping in the discipline (Alfie, The Boyfriend and I) on a regular basis, and though we are all striving to present a united front with the same types of technique, we all have our own parenting styles. And it just doesn’t seem to be working out very well.

Carter is teething hardcore. He’s got two teeth on the bottom now, and within days two on the top have started coming through. Then, he’s motoring all over the place. The baby gate almost always has to be up, the living room gets completely trashed by him, and we’re constantly chasing him around. So we’ve got a grumpy, energetic baby who is going through formula like it’s the end of the world.

The Boyfriend and I did a pretty huge clean of the kitchen today. I got almost all but one load of the dishes done, we finally swept and mopped the floor, and all but one counter is wiped down. The last load of laundry and the counter are getting done before we go to bed tonight.

I’m also planning on taking a walk down memory lane tonight, by going through my hope chest, which I haven’t been through since shortly after moving in here. It’s got my porcelain dolls, old journals and letters/notes from friends that I’ve kept over the years. Then I plan to throw the chest out. It’s wicker, falling apart and making a mess.

Oh yeah, did you notice I changed my theme 😉 I was bored of the old one, so let me know what you think. Did you like the old theme or this one better?

So even though today started off looking like it was going to be a bad day, it ended up being a very good and very productive day. The Boyfriend drove Kaeidyn to school this morning, and ran and got some formula for Carter (since he’s finished an entire box!). Then around 10 AM, I woke up to go pick Kaeidyn up from school.

It’s been a gloomy rainy day all day. My favorite. So I grabbed an umbrella and walked my shivering ass to her school. She was so excited to walk home in the rain, and ran all the way home through every last puddle she could find. I discovered that I remembered much more about rainbows than I thought I did, as we walked past a puddle with an rainbow caused by oil in it.

I got home, and after much procrastination, decided to go do the dishes. Well after I got one load of dishes done, I suckered Kaeidyn and Kenzie into washing the cups and silverware. I love how good of a job they do, I’m always shocked that I only have to go back over a couple things.

I ended up getting almost all of the dishes done, finally sweeped and mopped the floor (which seriously needed it), and got some more laundry done. Now all that’s left to do before The Boyfriend goes back to work is vacuum the living room, clean the counters, clean the dining room and finish up even more laundry. Tonight, I have to fold clothes and put them away before we go to bed. But that shouldn’t take me long, especially being that I’ll probably sucker The Boyfriend into helping with that 😉

I need to start working out so bad. Almost everyday I find myself complaining about some part of my body. Of course, not often out loud. But I’m always thinking about it. Lately, it’s been all about my stomach and my feet. In the summer, I prided myself on my gorgeous feet. Now, I just want to keep them covered up all the time.

Prior to Carter, I had gotten to the point that the only thing that I didn’t like about my stomach was the stretch marks. Now, it’s the entire shape of it. It protrudes like I’m still pregnant, and I despise it.

I’ve been contemplating about cutting Sprite out of my diet, and switching to water. Problem is, I hate water, with a passion. But, I figure if I want things to change, I have to change them. I’m also thinking about trying to quit smoking again. I seem to be much more nervous and hesitant about it now though.

I was planning on barbecuing up dinner tonight, but then it had to rain all day. So I made these delicious pork chops in the oven, that literally simmered away in what I’m calling My Barbecue Butter Sauce, which is basically just garlic barbecue sauce, a lot of butter and every spice I have in my spice cupboard (which isn’t very many spices). It was delicious, especially on top of the Yorkshire Puddings.

I wish I liked more fruits and vegetables. Even if I was able to puree them up and then add them to sauces or whatever, but I seem to notice every little one. It sucks being such a picky eater sometimes.

Well, I guess that’s really all I have to write about today, but I guess more in the next couple of days here.

Grumpy Face

Well I finally got more pictures up. It only took me forever! So I decided since I haven’t done it yet, I’m gonna add links to all my photo albums on Facebook (since it’s the only way for sure that you’ll get to see a bunch of pictures. I’d like to add them on here, but it takes too long!). I’ll probably also make a sidebar widget with the links, but not right now. So enjoy the pictures 😉

The Three Terrors

This is so unlike me, writing so little. Now that there’s no NaBloPoMo to be accountable to, I just forget to write. Not only that, I’ve been busy working on so many things online, that I keep spending more time on that stuff than this stuff.

I’ve been researching a bunch to start thinking about getting lessons up on The Art Of… blog. Then I was checking out Google Sites last night, and decided to make one site. So, The Rantings of a Tortured Mind – The Rantings Network Headquarters, was born.

A little about The Rantings Network. Firstly, it includes all the online activities that I’m doing which include:

I also have a Ning Network and a Facebook Fan Page in the works, though no real content has gone up yet. I’m hoping to change that soon. Once all these sites are complete with content, I’m gonna start promoting the heck out of them, that way I’m sure I’m getting visitors.

Today has felt like an incredibly long day, though not much has happened. I woke up this morning in a rotten mood, but then shortly after I woke up, I got this mad desire to clean. Last night, Keirnan had gotten into the soya sauce and spilt it down the side of the stove. So I did some dishes and cleaned most of the counters and stove off. Eventually, hopefully before we go grocery shopping next, I’ll get that fridge cleaned out.

I have so many things that I need to get done around this house. Laundry is starting to pile up like crazy again, and it’s so hard to keep track of clean clothes and dirty clothes. I have 3 dressers between 6 people! So alot of the clothes stay in laundry baskets. If it were just me, I would most likely be able to keep track of what’s clean and what’s dirty. But with three kids and a boyfriend going through the laundry baskets and throwing clothes in and out of laundry baskets, it’s extremely hard to keep track of it all.

My back has been hurting really bad all day today. Right in between my shoulder area. The Boyfriend rubbed my back twice tonight and it’s seemed to do nothing at all for me. Maybe a nice little workout will help out.

I was on a roll with working out. I did three days and then took a day break and then I did another three days. It’s been two or three days now of not doing a workout, and I’m kind of craving one. My body is definitely not what it used to be. I was attempting a yoga workout the other day, and my balance and flexibility is so off compared to what it used to be. Before kids, I could do the splits and stand on one foot while I lifted the other foot above my head. Now, I can hardly touch my toes and it’s incredibly difficult for me to stand on one foot for any length of time.

The kids are all doing very good. Kaeidyn’s now opened up to the idea of liking Lukas, a boy in her class. Today she says to me, “I think I might be Lukas’ girlfriend”. The only time she doesn’t like talking about Lukas is when Alfie is around. He teases her and she takes it very personally. She doesn’t like that Daddy thinks it’s funny. I explained to her the other day when we were coming home from school, that he wasn’t making fun of her, that it was that he was excited for her. When I told her that it was because, for the rest of her life we’ll be able to tell her about Lukas, her first crush, she changed her mind about not liking Lukas and finally admitted it, though we knew it a long time ago 😉

Keirnan has had an obsession with water these last couple of days. If I leave water in the sink, he goes out and plays with it. Twice now, he’s gotten in trouble for playing in the toilet downstairs. My brother comes over and leaves cups of water everywhere, and Keirnan sticks his hand in them. Needless to say, we’ve been dealing with alot of wetness.

Kenzie’s been doing pretty good, though I don’t think he could say “Mommy” more in a day. He’ll literally sit on the floor and just go, “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy”.  The first thing I still hear every morning is, “Can I play a game?”, and now it’s switched from Lego: Star Wars in the kitchen, to wanting to play games on the Wii in the living room. The good thing about that is that he’s not playing games very often at all, because I normally tend to be watching TV or don’t want to listen to Kaeidyn and Kenzie fight over whether they’re going to play Tennis or Sword Fighting.

Carter is officially rolling over from his back to his stomach. He’s been doing his stomach to his back for awhile now, and just yesterday started back to stomach. He’s even starting to sit by himself. But he’s been incredibly clingy, always wanting someone to hold him. Luckily, The Boyfriend’s been home for a couple days and has been an incredible help.

The Boyfriend had two days off, and on his second day off woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible pain in his tooth. He called in sick that night and the next night went to the doctor. He walked out with a prescription for pain meds, anti-inflammatories, and amoxicillin. The doctor told him he had to take another night off work so that he could see how he reacted to the medication.

Unfortunately, he had to go back to work tonight. Though, only five more days of work  until he has a week off for his birthday. March 3rd, my man is officially as old as I am. Things have been doing better for us, though I go in and out of it constantly during the day. Hopefully we’ll get over this hump, and hopefully it will be soon.

Well, I guess that’s all I really have to write. Hopefully it won’t be so long until the next time 😉

    What I Learnt:

Using ‘lists’ has always been a popular and effective technique among bloggers wanting to write content that gets spread from one person to the next. Just look at pages like the front page of Digg, TweetMeme and Delicious and you’ll see that many of the ‘hottest’ content on the web at any given time are written in this style.

8 Reasons Why List Posts are Powerful

    1. Lists are scannable
    2. Lists keep post succinct
    3. Lists look neat
    4. Lists can be comprehensive
    5. Lists are persuasive
    6. Lists can add to the ease of writing
    7. Lists go viral
    8. Lists break down the complicated

    Problogger Warns:

don’t go over the top with ‘list posts’. They can be incredibly powerful but on many blogs readers can become frustrated with them if that is all you do.

    Today’s Task

Today your task is to write a ‘list post’ on your blog.

    My Best Of 2009 List

    1. Carter Was Born!
      Carter's Birth
This year, we welcomed the sixth member of our family (and our fourth child), Carter Drayke. Even though, after having Keirnan, I said I wasn’t getting pregnant again until at least Kaeidyn was in school, back in January, I found out I was expecting again. The Boyfriend and I both knew before the test, but the confirmation seemed like a big slap in the face. The pregnancy was long, and even though in terms of health it was my best pregnancy yet, it was a hard pregnancy. Carter was my least complicated pregnancy, and I lasted until 4 days away from my original due date, which was October 28th (the doctors moved it further back to November 7th or 8th, because I was measuring small – which is the least abnormal thing for me!).

So October 24th, we welcomed our handsome man, who at 2 months old now, seems like he’s not even a baby anymore. Weighing in at a solid 12 lbs 2.5 oz., he’s holding his head up with ease and already starting to crawl. Definetely one of the best things to happen this year!

    2. Kaeidyn’s Officially a Big Girl!
      Kaeidyn's First Day
This year was a year of many milestones for my eldest. First, she started school. The day was epic for all of us. The first day, was an orientation that Alfie and I got to go to with her. For her, it was an amazing, exciting day. For me, it could’ve gone better. The day was a drop-in. When we went, we were the youngest parents there. The teacher had hardly acknowledged our existence. Looking back on it now, it was probably just because she was incredibly busy doing something else. At that time, I took it as she was ignoring us.

The next day was Kaeidyn’s first day completely by herself. We got there, and Kaeidyn ran up to the teacher and started talking to her. Again, it was probably just the teacher was incredibly busy, but she turned away from Kaeidyn and I took it as the teacher ignoring my kid. I walked out of the school bawling my eyes out (even though I said I wouldn’t cry when Kaeidyn started school!).

Of course, Alfie had to make it worse by telling me all the way home that “It’s okay”, secretly laughing to himself that I was being the irrational, mom-on-the-first-day-of-school cry baby, that I said I wouldn’t be. His own little “I told you so” dance.

Even though I’ve cried alot over the stuff that’s gone on at school with Kaeidyn, from Christmas Concerts to speech therapy, it’s one of the best things that happened this year for alot of reasons. I love how much I’ve learnt about her since she’s started school and how much she’s learnt. I love watching her get older and wiser and smarter with each passing school day.

Another really big milestone for Kaeidyn was losing her first tooth. She said one day her bottom front tooth hurt. Nothing seemed out of place. The next day, her tooth was loose. About three weeks later, after a short freak out about “it’ll hurt so bad!”, with the help of a paper towel, we pulled that loose tooth out.

The next day, she woke up to a loonie under her pillow, a missing tooth and a second loose tooth, which she lost about two weeks later. Now her adult teeth are coming in and she’s incredibly excited. Can’t wait for her to lose her top front teeth!

    3. This Summer
      Picture of Summer
This summer was by far my most favourite summer ever. I’m not normally one for the outdoors, preferring to be within the confines of my own home. For some reason, this summer, I never wanted to be in the house! This summer, not only did the kids and I all get tanned, but we did alot of fun stuff as a family. We went:

    4. Tons of Great Pictures
The Boyfriend and I got tons of great landscape pictures which we’ve been using as desktop backgrounds. Some of my favourite landscape pictures from this year include:

    5. Great Kids Movies
This year was a year with many great kids movies. They’re have probably been alot of years with great kids movies. Thankfully, I’ve had a computer all the other years, so I was never forced to watch kids movies. This year, it was a goal of mine to spend more time doing things with the kids. So this year, I watched a few kids movies with the kids and I loved every one of them. Maybe more than the kids did.Kaeidyn and I absolutely loved Tinkerbell and The Lost Treasure. We did the whole family movie night for this one, and while it was hard to keep the boys extremely interested in it, Kaeidyn, The Boyfriend and I were having a hoot and it was a seriously funny movie.

Bedtime Stories (the kids call it “Raining Gumballs”), is another one of our favourites for this year. The first couple of times, the kids watched it alone or with Alfie. I finally watched it, and seriously, one of the best Adam Sandler movies ever! It’s funny, it’s touching, it was exciting.

Another one that we all enjoyed this year was Monsters vs. Aliens. My favourite part of the movie is when “The Missing Link” says that it felt warmer, “That would be a very convenient truth”. I laughed hysterically through most of this movie. The best part was, even though the kids didn’t understand any of the references, they laughed through most of the movie too.

And even though it’s not a kids movie, one of our memorable movie moments was taking Kaeidyn and Kenzie to go see Transformers 2 at the big Galaxy Cinema. That was alot of fun and the movie was spectacular.

    6. The Delicious Food We Ate
